The beautiful and historical city of Budapest, the capital of Hungary, has so much to offer its visitors.
It boasts some amazing architecture, fantastic shopping opportunities, a wealth of attractions and good food, drink and entertainment – all the ingredients of a perfect holiday.
One excellent way of seeing all the sights of Budapest is taking a tour during your vacation. There are a number of different ways that you can get around to look at Budapest.
You can either take one of the bus tours available (there are various tours, including a hop-on, hop-off tour), go on a boat tour (you must try to take a tour of the famous Danube, particularly at night!), join a bike tour (if you’re feeling energetic, take in the sights on two wheels!), do a guided walk (it’s a great way of seeing parts of the city that you might miss when using other modes of transport), or if you fancy viewing the city from the air, you can even take a helicopter sightseeing tour!
You can also make the most of your stay in Budapest by joining one of the interesting tours that take place in other areas outside the city, as there are many great places to see in Hungary.
But if your time is limited, there are some must-sees in Budapest itself. The city boasts a wealth of UNESCO World Heritage sites. There’s Heroes' Square, the House of Terror Museum, the Hungarian National Gallery, the Hungarian State Opera House, Lánchíd (Chain Bridge), Millennium Underground Railway, Pesti Vigadó, Museum of Fine Arts, the Royal Palace in Buda Castle, the Academy of Music, the City Park, Gellért Thermal Bath, the Art Hall, Buda Castle Labyrinth and the Budapest History Museum - plus more!
The City Park (Városliget) is a great place to take the kids. Here you will find Budapest Zoo, the Municipal Circus and the Amusement Park, which will help to keep the children entertained. Other child-friendly attractions in Budapest include the Children’s Railway, Buda Castle Funicular Railway, the Puppet Theatre and the Tropicarium Budapest. The kids will have no excuse to be bored!
After taking in all the sights and the attractions that Budapest has to offer, you will no doubt be in need of something to eat and drink. The city has a wide variety of restaurants and a great selection of different cuisines. You will get the chance to try some traditional Hungarian food as well as dishes from other countries, such as Indian, Chinese, Italian etc. There are also some good pubs and bars around the city.
Budapest also boasts some good shopping facilities. It has a mix of markets, shopping malls and shopping streets. During your stay, check out the famous pedestrian shopping street Váci utca. Shopaholics beware!
The markets in Budapest are well worth a visit. Here you will be able to stock up on all your provisions (including some great fruit, vegetables, dairy food etc, as well as Hungarian food specialities and souvenirs) for your self-catering holiday.
To round up your day, be sure to check out Budapest’s nightlife. The city offers a variety of entertainment to suit all tastes, such as live music, clubs and even casinos (should you prefer to do a sport of gambling during your vacation). The choice is yours!
Budapest is brimming with culture, beautiful scenery and entertainment, as well some great shops and delicious food and drink!
